Trump Warns Colombia of Possible Military Action

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has cautioned Colombia with the prospect of armed intervention, resembling the recent assault carried out in Venezuela.

While addressing journalists aboard Air Force One on Sunday, Trump remarked that Colombia is “run by a sick man,” pointing to President Gustavo Petro, whom he branded a “drug leader.” The American leader implied that Petro, who was penalized last year, might also be ousted from authority.

“Colombia is very sick… run by a sick man who likes making cocaine and selling it to the United States. And he’s not going to be doing it very long, let me tell you,” Trump declared. When questioned directly about whether Washington would initiate a military campaign against Colombia, he answered: “It sounds good to me.”

Petro reacted firmly through a sequence of posts on X, urging Trump to “stop slandering” and appealing to Latin American countries to unite or risk being “treated as servants and slaves.”

This confrontation comes amid intensifying criticism over Washington’s extraordinary armed mission to capture Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela.

The Trump administration asserted the action was necessary to prosecute the Venezuelan leader on narcotics trafficking charges. Caracas dismissed this justification as a cover for regime change. Reports from media outlets indicated that no fewer than 80 individuals, both soldiers and civilians, lost their lives during the operation.

Maduro, who has refuted all accusations, was seized and forcibly transported to the United States along with his spouse.
